Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Visa: This is a special type of visa created for wealthy individuals with net worth of no less than CAD$10 million and willing to invest at least CAD$2 million in a Canadian immigrant venture capital fund. However, this type of visa has been put on hold for the time being.
The Provincial Nominee Program: This is another type of program administered by the provinces and territories in Canada, giving them autonomy to invite foreign nationals who meet their abilities and requirements to come to their provinces. Some of these PNPs also offer an entrepreneur or investor visa program for immigrants who want to start a business in Canada
This visa category brought nearly 9,000 immigrants to Canada before the end of 2013 and has been in effect ever since and the economy is rapidly growing.

The processing time for a business visa varies between 1 and 6 weeks, this is often dependent on the workload of the Canadian Embassy handling the processing.

The Self Employed Category or Field on Aiming is divided into two broad areas: Culture and Sports/Sports. Cultural includes skills such as:

Athletic / sporting includes such skills as:
- Athlete,

- Referee,

Basic requirements for a successful application include:
- You must be able to demonstrate that you have at least two years of relevant work experience and that you are willing and able to become self-employed in Canada.
- You must score at least 35 on the selection grid, which is designed to determine if you can make a significant contribution to Canada’s economy.
The selection grid consists of a set of five selection criteria and scoring systems with a maximum score of 100 and a passing score of 35 candidates on which to select;
- The documents they provide
- Your score under each of the five selection criteria
- Ability to meet the definition of self-employed
- Further processes may require an interview with a visa officer
Selection criteria include assessments in areas such as:
- Education – 25 points
- Experience – 35 points
- Age – 10 points
- Ability to speak English and/or French – 24 points
- Adaptability – 6 points

What is the Net Worth Required for Self Employed Selection?
There is no Benchmark Net worth requirement for eligibility for the Self Employed Program, however you must be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to settle in Canada for you and your dependents and to fund the business for which you have been selected .
Canada Start-up Visa Program
The Canada Start-up Visa program aims to encourage and entice entrepreneurs to come to Canada. To apply for a start-up visa, your business idea or company must be supported by one or more designated start-up support organizations, such as: venture capital funds and angel investor groups. These incubators are organizations licensed to invest or support start-up ventures and ideas.

- Have enough money to settle and live in Canada
Note: To be selected for entry into Canada, you must also meet the eligibility requirements and are not allowed to enter, even if you meet the Start-up Program requirements.
What is the minimum investment to apply through a start-up program?
- For investments from a Canadian venture capital fund, you must have a minimum of $200,000
- From a Canadian angel investor group, you must have a minimum of $75,000
- To secure investment from an incubator, you must be admitted to a Canadian corporate investor program.
