It is made easy for EU citizens who (for the time being) do not want to work in the country. They can stay in Canada for up to six months without a visa for tourist purposes – a passport is sufficient.

Taking up a temporary job
The Rule
If you only want to work in Canada for a limited time, you almost always need a work permit, but you do not have to apply for immigration.

When you apply for a work permit, you usually need to have a permanent job offer from a Canadian company. To do this, the employer must first apply to the Canadian employment office to be allowed to hire you at all. The employment office will then check whether the position could also be filled by a Canadian unemployed person.
There are three hurdles to clear here: application to the company – application to the Canadian employment office – application for a work permit… Since the procedure is also quite time-consuming for the employer and also takes a long time, Canadian companies are usually not particularly interested in applications from abroad eager.
Fortunately, there are a few shortcuts through the administrative jungle:
Exception 1 – Exchange Programs
There are various exchange programs for young professionals and students that offer the possibility of temporary work in Canada. Internships are also often handled through such programs. Here you have to apply for the work permit together with the exchange organization. Employers do not have any effort with the application procedure and are therefore more willing to accept a foreign applicant. With some exchange organizations, however, the applicants must have reached an agreement with their future employer beforehand on their own initiative. Also, nobody is entitled to an exchange place – the number of participants in the programs is limited.

Exception 2 – no examination by the employment office
In some very special cases, the examination by the Canadian employment office does not apply. This can be the case, for example, if your company transfers you to Canada. It also applies to foreigners who study in Canada and have to complete compulsory internships. Visiting scholars are also among the preferred special groups.
Exception 3 – special programs
From time to time there are special programs to attract highly sought-after workers, e.g. IT specialists, to Canada. Then the bureaucratic procedure will be simplified. Information on such programs may be available on the Canadian Immigration Services website:
Exception 4 – no work permit required
A few professions do not need a work permit at all. These include, for example, business travelers who are only staying in Canada for a short time; service personnel flown in to service foreign aircraft or to train Canadian personnel; hospital interns; legal interns who neither receive money nor actively participate.
